Standing on the Precipice is available in two companion editions.
The Literary Edition is written for the general reader. It follows the full arc of the inquiry while placing greater emphasis on narrative flow, accessibility, and the continuity of the larger argument. Technical material is retained where it is necessary to the reasoning, but the reader is not asked to carry more detail than the journey requires.
The Academic Edition explores the same questions through a more expansive evidentiary framework. It contains additional scientific, historical, philosophical, and technical material, along with fuller discussion of the evidence, uncertainties, competing interpretations, and speculative boundaries that underlie the argument.
The two editions are not arranged as introductory and advanced volumes, nor does one replace the other. Each stands on its own. They begin from the same questions, follow the same broad path, and arrive at the same precipice; they simply travel there at different levels of resolution.
Readers who prefer a continuous, general-audience exploration may find the Literary Edition the natural place to begin. Those who wish to examine more of the supporting structure behind the argument may prefer the Academic Edition—or may choose to continue into it afterward.
